Hi everybody
We are new of the forum. We have just bought Complete 2002, and we are trying to start using it.
One of the computers to be used seems to have a problem we can't solve. The installation goes well, but when we try to start the program we get a window with:
"Max Communication buffer size parameter of 64000 is <64512. Please correct and restart."
It's a Sony Vaio notebook, with win2000 and 256k memory. I don't know if it matters, and I'd be surprised if it does, but the OS in this computer is in Italian.
Btw, the same happened trying to use the Demo version, but in that case we thought it was perhaps a problem of the demo itself...
Too bad I've tried a lot to contact the Peachtree support, but I've not been able to get through. My emails did not get answered.

The fix is very simple, but since you will be dealing with the Registry, please back it up first.
(1) Click on Run
(2) Enter "Regedit" (without the quotation marks)
(3) Click on "OK"
(4) In sequence, click on

The fix is easy but you will need to go into the Windows Registry. So back it up first to be safe.
Click on "Start" on your taskbar, then enter "Regedit" without the quotation marks, the click "OK".
When the registry window opens, in sequence click on:
(1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
(2) SOFTWARE
(3) Btrieve Technologies
(4)Microkernel Workstation Engine
(5)Version 6.15 (That's my version number. Your's may be different)
(6)Settings
In the right pane, click on "Max Communication Buffer Size".
When the new panel appears on the left, click the box for "Decimal" and type in "64512" or whatever isthe minimum required number .
Exit the Registry and it should work.

Lorin
Thank you very much, this indeed worked.
Now, why am I receiving this kind of informations from a very kind person, and the company is just absent??? As long as I can see, this setting was from Btrieve, which gets installed by Peachtree. So why is it that I've not been able to find any mention of this kind of problem, from any source (manual, online help, whatever)??? Is it me that have overlooked something???
I'm kind of scared anyway. I've mailed about this problem to peachtree ten days ago, with no result whatsoever. If this is what I'm going to receive...
Once again, thanks to the community.

It cost me the cost of a service call to find out how to correct the problem.
My problem occured because I installed both DacEasy Accounting and Peachtree software, both products of Sage. Their initial Btreive settings were incompatible with each other.

Peachtree does mention this problem and a solution was posted on their web site, under the "knowledge center." A registry file can be downloaded from Peachtree's site and just with double click on the file the same fix is done automatically for you. ( a registry update for Peachtree 7, which works perfectly ok with 2002 as well )
As Lorin mentioned, if some other programs are installed using btrieve, these settings can be wrongly made for Peachtree.
Make good use of this forum and the Peachtree "Knowledge Center." As Peachtree's user base is quite large, many of the problems have already discovered by users and solutions are most of the time available.
