View Full Version : Constant crash
Hi,
We are using Peachtree Complete Accounting 6.0 for a while.
One problem we have is it constantly crash. First of all, it
slows down in terms of processing speed. It takes long time
to open reports, to create invoice, create order.......etc. Then
it crashes suddenly. This happened many times so right now
we have to create a new company every 15 days to avoid
sudden crash. Then I simply import those csv files from existing company.... This avoids crash problem, but very annoying
....
Does anyone out there have same kind of problem?
Any suggestion or comment?
Thanks in advance.

Very often, crashing is caused by hardware problems. What is the configuration of your machine? CPU? RAM? Is it a network? If so, please describe your network configuration. These information will help to figure out the cause.

I agree with Jacky. If your system is constantly crashing, the problem is with your hardware... most likely the memory. How much RAM do you have on your computer? Maybe it is time to upgrade your computer system.
Jacky,
First of all, thank you for reply.
Most of our PCs are 400Mhz, 64MB RAM, 4 or 8 GB HD. Server is Dell Poweredge 2500SC dual-CPU server. Server is running Windows 2000 Server. We have about 15 workstations. All workstations are Win 98. All PCs and server are connected directly to a Edimax 16 port 10/100 switch. Workgroup is set up on our network. No domain or active directory is set up yet. Since I am new here, I have not had a chance to make big changes.
We are actually in the process of upgrading most of the PCs to
900Mhz or 1.1Ghz, 256 MB RAM, 20GB HD. So hardware part will
be taken care of pretty soon.
Do you have any suggestion on network configuration? What
changes should I make or look at?
Thanks for your time.

I think your future hardware is more than enough. Only concern is, if you keep Windows 9x, then you're not using the full power of your machines ( especially win 9x handles memory and network not in a good way, and win 9x is by-born unstable ). So, the environment may still be an unstable one. I'm not saying that it's no good. But, once there's a crash, Peachtree's data can be corrupted.
Choose a better network card if you're going to replace them. Different brands of LAN cards have not much difference in performance, however stability is important. I prefer 3COM, like 3c905c-tx, etc. I'm not familiar with Edimax switch, so no comment.
