How can I use a laptop away from home? I have installed the peachtree program (PA complete 2003) on my laptop, now how do I transfer the data and work on the laptop and then when I come home transfer to main computer?

To transfer the data from the desktop to the laptop create a backup file (File>>Backup). Copy that file to a removable media such as a USB flash drive so that you can copy it to the laptop.
On your laptop open up peachtree. Close the initial screen. Next select File>>Restore and browse to the PT backup file. Tell PT that you want to create a new company. If you have any customized forms then you also want to specify to restore forms too. Just read the screens carefully the first time you do the restore.
When you are done make a backup on the laptop and restore the file on your desktop but this time select the company on the desktop to restore the file into. Now you are going to do the restore into an existing company.

I intstalled peachtree to my laptop with the serial no, registration no. and cust id no., now I can't access peachtree on my main computer. It says that there is another computer that has registered. Do I need to have a multi user license?

is the lap top networked with the other computer? Are you trying to access the company file with both computers at the same time?

You don't need a multiuser copy of Peachtree just make sure you only have one copy of Peachtree running at a time especially if they are networked.

There are at least two ways to connect to your Peachtree. One real easy and one a little more difficult but doable (this is how I do it.)
The easy way is to use Remote Desktop (if both OS's are windows XP). This method puts your laptop in the place of the computer which uses Peachtree. eg: if your desktop at work either has the program and data on its hard drive, when you remote desktop it puts your laptop in place of your office computer.
If your are not using Windows XP, you can use pcanywhere or equivalent to do the same thing.
The more difficult is to create a VPN where your desktop becomes a work station and your data drive in the office becomes the server. Under this method, you must assign a drive letter to the office computer with the data, and you must place this drive letter in your pcwxx.ini as the data drive.
Creating the VPN however is normally not for the inexperienced. It can be very frustrating to setup.
Under either senerio, you will probably be disappointed in the speed of your connection. Your pc desktop operates the most quickly, your network probably operates at 100 mb. The fastest cable connection operates theoretical 7 mb (never happens with real data). Don't even try with dialup.
