Hi,
I am trying to backup a company from one computer, and then restore it on another computer.
I know there is the backup option "file->backup>" but then when I go to the next machine it doesnt have a restore unless the company is already there.
Summed up, what is the best way to back a company up to be put on a dif. computer?
Thanks
Zak

BEST AND EASIEST WAY IS TO HAVE AN EXTERNAL ZIP. HOWEVER, IF YOU DONT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE TRYING TO USE MICROSOFT BACKUP. I KNOW TO BE ABLE TO RESTORE YOU USUALLY NEED TO RETRIEVE THE CATALOG FILE FIRST BEFORE RESTORE EVEN BECOMES AN OPTION. HOPE THAT HELPS ALITTLE

After you installed the Peachtree Accounting Software,
two sample company were also created. You can open
anyone of them firstly, and then restored your backup company.
(But the sample company will be replaced. If you want
to keep the sample company, you can copy the sample
company --- under the C:\peachw, you can see the sample
company "Bcs" & "!_pdg".

Years ago I created a "sneakernet" batch file for a customer who needed his files at the office and at home. This was before Peachtree came up with the better backup system, but I still use this method for some clients who don't understand the backup and restore procedures. (One client restored a previous year's file without making a backup of the current file first and lost 3 month's of data. I've been doing this since PAW 2.0.
Peachtree must be installed on both computers.
Please remember that this was done using batch files and was in a much older version. I use this method to take some of my clients' files back to the office with me. Some are moved via FTP sites and some through CD's. In the old days it was floppies.
Use WINZIP or similar program and backup the entire Peachtree company folder for your company. This is for the file with the CURRENT information.
On the second computer, if the company folder exists, delete it.
Unzip the current company file to the correct location.
Open the company as you normally do.
I also use a similar method of copying company files to another location on the server in a deeply embedded folder. That way I can open up to 10 years of old company records.

Depends on the current devices and configuration. Of course, if you already connected your computers in a network, you can copy files through the network. And, as others said, you should be able to find your company data within a folder of a name close to your company name under Peachtree folder like c:\peachw.
However, if network is not available, external device is needed. And depends on the size of your data, you may copy them to floppy, zip disk or write to CD. Then, copy the files with the folder to the machine you want to restore, again under the Peachtree folder c:\peachw.
Finally as Deborah said, open it as normal. The built-in backup / restore method of Peachtree is not suitable in your case.
