I cannot open up Peachtree and I get the following message...

-Peachtree has detected that Microsoft Windows 2000 is
-installed on your computer and that you are currently logged
-on with restrictive user rights. To rund Peachtree accounting
-you must have non-restrictive (Power User or Administrator)
-rights. Check with your system administrator on how to change
-your Windows 2000 user rights.

The first problem with this is that I'm running Win 98, in which
I don't believe there are setting for user rights or types of users.
The system administrator here doesn't do anything with user rights, which I believe shouldn't be an issue, since we are a small
firm and everyone pretty much needs access to everything.

Nobody else has this problem and the server here is pretty much
just for file sharing.

Any ideas on what could be causing this or a way to fix this?
I have already tried re-installing.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jamie

It depends on how you'll use Peachtree, if you'll install everything in your workstation, both program and data, it should work properly. However, if you want your data on the server and everyone shares it, full rights should be granted.

Better to believe the message and double confirm with your system adminstrator.

Thanks for the reply.

The Sys. Admin. is out for a while, but will discuss it further with
him upon his return and let you know how it works out.

Jamie,

I am experiencing the EXACT same error....
but I am running from windows 2000 and windows NT workstation over Terminal server to Win2000 server where Peachtree is located.

DID you ever get a resolution for you issue?

I have gone through all NTFS permissions as well as registry key security. Power Users has access to all I can possibly find including w32 & wbt files in the winnt\system32 directory on the O/S drive.

I would be grateful if you had a possible solution.

I have one account that can access. Administrator works. But that's it.

Thanks for the feedback.

No, still haven't been able to get it to work, I have been busy with some other work so not able to focus on peachtree, but seem to be stuck. Sorry I can't help more to this point.

SEE post -------->non-restrictive rights request

It will link you to another post that resolves the problem!!

The problem is the pcw80.ini and bti.ini files and their location in the windows directories that are KEY!!

Hope this helps you!!
Thanks for your earlier reply.
