I am trying to back up using a disc. I keep getting this message: See the owner of the file or an administrator to obtain permission. I don't
have any problems when backing up with a floppy...help!!

What do you mean by "disc"? You mean CD-R or CD-RW or other media, or just another folder in a computer?

As the message tells you, you've problems with the settings of your folders or files. Check them, if necessary you may have to reset the owner and user rights of your files. Check with your system administrator, esp. if you're using a file server.
