Inventory Quality Hold

In 2005 version. I have inventory items that are placed in quality hold for several days before being release to sell. I am trying to find a way to enter into inventory for viewing as a "hold" quanitiy. Then I will need to know how to transfer the inventory from hold status to ready for sale.
HOW ??

use Sales Orders--then delete the sales orders

Not sure it I want to use sales order as other reports maybe mis-represented into thinking that I have items sold waiting to invoice. Is there any other way ?? Can a whole new inventory GL be set up for items on hold and then a inventory transfer be made between accounts ?????

Gale's suggestion will work just fine. Sales Orders place a hold on Inventory quantity (check your Inventory Default settings on how Qty Available is reported). Sales Orders do not create any GL account postings nor do they affect the Customer's account balance.

And if you use your own company's name as the customer, you can find them easier and put a reason on the order line.

OR... You can do as you suggested by receiving the parts under one number and when they are taken off quality hold you can transfer them to another number-- using the Receive Inventory screen with your company as the vendor.
