If I create a PO under the Task\ Purchase Order route,
can I go to the Task\\ Purchaces\Receive Inv to get it to post?

Right! For the transactions in Purchase Order will not affect your General ledger. If you purchase something, you need to record that in the Purchases/Receive Inventory to update your inventory & creditors ledgers. The procedure is: Purchase Order - Purchases/Receive Inventory - Payment.
