Does anyone know IF and how I can change the default backup directory from my local drive to the network drive? Using Version 8 and backing up from within Peachtree. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have never used the PT backup. It has been much safer for me to backup data directories to Zip/Jazz disks and/or network drives (can automate either one). Off site storage protects client data.

Yes you can change the directory. At the top it has save in. Pull down the menu and pick the dirve. Jazz and Zip are good but the automated backup process is a real dog. Use at your own risk.

PS: you have to have the network dirve maped to this computer.

I guess I didn't make myself very clear. I know I can change the directory, but I want it to REMEMBER where to copy to on the network. Right now it "defaults" to the Peachtree directory on my local drive and I have to click on too many folders to get to the right one on the network drive. All this is done so that the Peachtree files are automatically backed up each night from the network. Thanks for your suggestions though!

See post 'P Complete 2002 Instal...'.
They discuss the data path...
"We also had to edit the 'pcw90.ini' file and modify the DATAPATH to read DATAPATH=N:\peachw which is our data drive"

THANKS JIM R!!!!! Can't wait to get back to work on Monday to edit the .ini file. I'm sure this is the answer. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

bkpr913,

I think that JimR is confused. As far as I know the "DATAPATH=N:\Peachw" string in the 'pcw90.ini' file is the default location for the company data (or something like that). In fact, in the post that JimR is reffering to, they are talking about the path were the company data is located and not the default backup path.

I'm not quite sure about this, but be aware of the possibility. Maybe the setting you are looking for is inside that file, but I'm pretty sure that string is not it. If someone in this forum knows for sure, please post.

You were looking to change the default path for making a backup under peachtree? Right? Let me get this right... You have a networked computer, but your data files are on the workstation (I suppose that no other computer uses this files too). Also, you are trying to backup to a network location so when the server performs it's own backup it will backup your data files too.

IMHO, you could use Windows backup to make a backup copy of the data folder to the network drive (or, if you have a relative small amount of data, you could make a batch file to perform this data-copying-task too). You can even schedule either way to do it automaticly.

Thanks jag. I was hoping the former post would be the answer because it sounded so simple. If I can't get the default set inside Peachtree, I'll have to give your way a try. Looks like I've got some work ahead of me for Monday . . . .
