Our problem with version 2007 is that it continuously locks up, stalls, freezes on us while we are using the program. It seems to happen the most when we go in and out of screens, but can also happen when we try to print or open a list. It is very random, but very often. We have to control/alt/delete to shut the system down (it says PT is running). PT support has been no help and has basically written us off, saying they can't help us. If anyone has any suggetions, we'd really appreciate it.

This does not address the root problem, but instead of shutting the system down, try the following:
Start Windows Task Manager {Ctrl/Akt/Delete}
Click on Processes
Highlight W32MKDE.EXE
Click on End Process.

2007 has much higher hardware needs than previous versions. Try adding more RAM to start, or if your computer is more than 3 years old, upgrade. I've found 1 GB of RAM or more improves performance.

The database program file W32MKDE.EXE is not a part of Peachtree 2007 as suggested in earlier posts. So this is not the problem.

Check your hardware statistics, RAM memory is the primary element here. You want to have a minimum of 512mb with 1gb of RAM preferred on each workstation. The Server or Host computer should have 1gb of RAM minimum with 2gb preferred.

Check for secondary programs that are running in the background that may be using some of your critical RAM memory. You can press Ctrl, Alt, Del. - Task Manager - Performance. Here you will see statistics on available RAM memory and memory usage.

Check your Anti-Virus Software as this can be the source of the lockups. If using a Corporate Edition of most popular Anti-Virus software, you can elect to exclude Peachtree folders on both the workstation and the Server from being scanned.

Check for Spyware, Adware etc. as these programs run in the background using up valuable memory and tend to slow the processing speed tremendously.

Check network cables, hubs/switches for communication break downs. This can and will cause lockups due to lost connectiions to the Server / Host.

Run Windows Defrag on the Server and the workstations as heavy fragmentation can cause timeout errors on a networks, along with general speed issues.

Have just started having this same problem on one client only. The others on the network (all identical) are doing fine. My problem started with random lockups, also used crt/alt/del to end. Then started having problems getting peachtree to load on the client (locally loaded software on a peer to peer). It would just hang, until I would get a Non response error. Rebooted the entire network, and now peachtree loads on the client, but it's extremely slow to load (3 to 4 mins). Once it gets to the open company screen it seems to speed up again. This is an all new network, hardware, etc. everything has been working fine for about 3 weeks now. Currently running virus scan to determine if we've picked up something, will try defrag next.

Did I imagine it, or did I read somewhere about Pervasive and improper shutdown?
