We have just completed doing our first payroll on PCA 2002. Payroll will not post to the general ledger in four of five companies. We are using Win98se/Novell Netware v3.2

We get the following: The record you are trying to access is currently in use. Please try again when it is available. [file:n:\peachw\companyfolder\JrnlRow.DAT]

The message appears when no other files/Peachtree windows are open except the payroll window needed to do the payroll, starting at 'Select for Payroll Entry'. Even when no other workstation has Peachtree open.

Can anyone help on this?

Many thanks in advance,

June

I have the same problem here. Although it can happen when posting an invoice, receiving inventory, payroll. Just about any posting time.

Not sure what causes it. We too are on a Novell server. Maybe that is the problem.

I can usually fix it by backing up the company, restoring on a standalone PC, changing to batch posting, enter the items, and post. Then I have to do another backup and put back on the network. Not fun at all.

If anyone has a better solution please let me know.

Thanks for your reply. We did get it figured out.... at least so far.

The woman at our CPA's office had us set up each on the companies in 'real-time mode'. The company that printed/posted fine had only 5 payroll checks to print. The others had more.

I had our computer guy come and check it out for anything that might have to do with Novell. He found no problems. He thought we wanted Peachtree set for 'real-time' also. He was as puzzled as we were. After he left, I had our secretary switch to 'batch mode' just to see what would happen. It worked just fine. We have set each of the companies for 'batch mode', and have had no problems since.

Hope this helps. Fixing it the way you're having to do it would be a royal pain.

Thanks but I really don't want to use batch mode if I don't have to. Peachtree does not recommend using batch mode on a server with multiple users. At least that is how I interpretted the book.

Are there other users out there using Batch mode on a server with multiple users? If so, what problems or advantages do you see? How often do you post? Can you post with other users in the system?

Thank you -
