I am using accounting 2000 on a windows 98 machine. problem is that windows crashed and i cannot access anything except
through command line. I have installed peachtree on another
machine but need to know which directories/files I need to copy
off the old machine. I checked but did not see any .ptb files on the old machine. I have only 1 company set up so that may
simplify things. thanks

You want to get all the files from the old data directory for the company. There are several ways of doing this:
(assume you can access old drive)

1. Assuming Windows is 'confused' or 'corrupted' on old machine, reinstall Windows on old machine, backup data to floppies or zip up the files with PKZip, Winzip or a Zip drive and unzip to new data directory on new machine.

2. If files are small and reinstall does not work, copy files from old machine to floppies and copy them to new data directory on new machine.

3. larger files and some computer knowledge, use PKzip (dos) to zip old data directory files to floppies and unzip on new machine.

4. Move old drive to new machine and attach to data cable as a slave drive. Copy files in old HD data directory to new data directory on new HD.

5. Get someone to do it for you.

Be sure you get the custom forms for checks etc. if you created any.
