We are having several issues with this program.. The user's pc is an AMD Athlon 1ghz, 256mb RAM, 6gb hard drive, running Windows 2000 Professional, SP2..

Randomly, the following error is received. "Peachtree has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. An error log is being created."

When attempting to edit an invoice, the message appears "The record you are trying to access is currently in use. Please try again when the file is available." There are no other Peachtree users, it is installed only on one machine. ????

Also, in the Sales/Invoicing window, the drop down menu Show displays only once choice, All Transactions, when when it should list multiple dates. This also happens randomly and will normally be corrected after rebooting.

Any ideas? I hope I've provided enough info..

Several observations:

1. The hardware configuration of the machine looks fine. However, the system seems not stable. Although this is the only station running Peachtree, is it in a network? If so, is the data put in the server?

Suggestion: if you have a network card, better to apply registry update for Peachtree 7 available in Peachtree's support page. Also, conflicts with IE is another cause for unstableness. Apply the newest patches to your Peachtree 7.0.03 or 04. Besides, you may need to uninstall your IE and reinstall the one provided in Peachtree's install CD. ( this is a known Peachtree problem )

2. Once your Peachtree abnormally ends, the locking problem will appears even though only you're using Peachtree. So, this is normal.

3. Display problem commonly appears when your system is out of resources. Are you doing some other tasks at the same time? Check your system resources esp. memory when you've display problem, see if it is caused by insufficient memory.

All updates I could find are now applied and the problem is still occurring.

I was not able to find any IE version on the Peachtree CD.. The browser we are using is IE 6.0 with the latest security update installed (February). Is there a "Peachtree Approved" browser I should be using?

Thanks again for your help!

If you've already run through Jackie's list of suggestions, the next thing I would try is to open one of the sample companies that comes with Peachtree. If the problems still occur in that company, it's likely a system conflict of some sort. If they don't, then you may have a corrupt Peachtree company.

Unfortunately, I don't really have any other suggestions if it's a system conflict...I've not seen problems of that magnitude on an installation. You next step should probably be to contact Peachtree support. The first person you talk you may not have an answer, so be sure to get a case number and try calling back again.

By the way, you didn't respond to Jackie's question regarding if Peachtree is installed on a network or a single machine. Let us know, because this sometimes makes a difference.

Thanks, both of you, for your time on this. :-)

I'm sorry, the pc in question IS on a network, and the data is stored locally, backed up every night.

I will try to determine if the company itself is corrupt. If it is, is there a way to fix it?

By locally, do you mean on the C: drive of the machine? Or on a mapped drive of the server, like F: or something like that. What does the DATAPATH line of your PAW70.INI say? To determine this, click Start, Run, and type PAW70.INI. The DATAPATH line is usually about 1/3 of the way down the screen.

If the company is corrupt, the best resort is to revert to a backup made prior to the corruption. Otherwise, you'll have to build a new company from scratch, and try to export what you can from the damaged company, then import it into the new company.

It is stored locally on the C:\ drive.. The datapath indicates C:\PEACHW...

The only other idea that I have, short of you contacting Peachtree support directly, is to install the patch available at

http://www.peachtree.com/updates_available/html/disable_file_caching.cfm

Good luck!
