View Full Version : IE 4 launches when PT icon clicked

I have a friend with a small business whom I built a pc for and loaded her brand new copy of PT (Complete, I *think*) on it and transferred her "companies" (total of 3) to the new computer.
Everything worked fine for a several months. She called me last night and claims that now when she clicks on the desktop icon -or the program icon for PT (Start, Programs, etc), that Internet Explorer launches and errors out, giving her the message "Unable to connect to server". Obviously, she or someone there has toyed with settings somewhere, and I know absolutely nada about Peachtree, and don't have a clue where to even begin.
Could some kind soul point me in the right direction? I am sure this is probably a question deserving of attention in the open forum, but would really appreciate an email answer -since I'm only able to check this online forum periodically.

Thanks in advance for the help!

War Eagle,

That sounds very weird indeed. I know this may sound stupid but just to make sure: Are you sure that the shortcut is pointing the right .EXE file (right-click Icon->Properties->Target)? Or the working directory is ok? If it's pointing to a web page (or explorer itself) that's going to happen.

Also, next time if you need an e-mail response you should provide your e-mail address or enable to send you e-mails tru the Peachtree Forum Website.

Sorry,
I'm not akin to using these forums. I thought the email address would be shown.

Please send any replies to war_eagle_1@hotmail.com. Yes, the icon is pointing to the correct path for the peachtree program. It actually launches the peachtree complete accounting, then, before the user is able to choose their company, it attempts to connect via the internet and gives the error "unable to connect to server". It will not allow the user to choose the company after this error, either.

I'm contemplating having the user reinstall peachtree, but am not really sure of the implications this will have on the existing companies in their database, nor whether this user has been backing their data up properly.

Thanks for the thoughts and inputs. Surely someone else has experienced this before!

War Eagle,

This is a completely different issue. This IMHO is what I like to call the Peachtree Today Sindrome. As you may know the Peachtree Today component tries to connect to the internet every time you run Peachtree.

How to get rid of it:

Go to the preference tab and scroll down to Start Up, then uncheck "Display Peachtree Today each time this company is loaded".

If this is not the case, there are other post you should see:

I hope this helps.
