Our company has multiple locations with inventory at each site. I would like each location to be able to use only the purchasing & inventory functions of Peachtree which I will limit via the standard Peachtree security. Since each location requires a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for another application, I would like to leverage the VPN to access Peachtree. Because Peachtree networks best by mapping the data drive, does anyone have experience networking Peachtree over a VPN?

glgarcia,

How much bandwidth we are talking about? How many Users? And how much this users will be using each app?

I don't know what exactly are you asking, but here is IMHO:

Using a VPN for accessing Peachtree directly is no good. The way that peachtree deals with the data requires too much bandwidth to run it with a typical VPN connection. You should run it via Terminal Services, which requires very liitle bandwidth to run (typically 64-128k); the downside to this arrangement is that you need to have a more powerful server.

You got to take in to account that not all apps runs under Terminal Services (some of them requires some serious tweaks). Peachtree v7 and v8 run fine under TS. Some people have problems running Peachtree 2002 (v9), but somebody gave me a tweak on how to run it (I haven't tested it, but many people says it works). If you plan going this way check if your other apps runs under TS.

Please, let me know if I can help you with anything.
