I am upgrading from PP4Mfg 2004 to 2007. Installed on server & workstations successfully. When opening company, data conversion is required & backup prior to conversion. I get a Dynazip Error #18 when trying to backup and can't resolve it. I have read the other posts on this error and checked my system ruling out everything mentioned, but still no success.

I have administrator rights, have checked the directory on the server to ensure all directories, sub-directories & files are not marked read only or protected. I have full access to the directory (and successfully backed up one company, but cannot backup other company). I made sure ZIP file name had no spaces, dashes or other possible naming problems.

Error message first says: "could not open for reading Z:\..." the window is not big enough and not expandable to read the full path. I have been through and checked every file to make sure it could be opened for reading.

I am totally stuck! Any help greatly appreciated.

Are you able to restore that backup in 2004? error #18 can indicate a bad backup. Maybe try to backup the file again.

Have you also tried restoring the file in 2007 with the file on the server? Your message says "Z:\..." so maybe this is a network problem and restoring it locally would work.

The reason I was unable to backup is because there was an unrecognizeable file in the directory. How or why it got there is unknown, but it caused the error. I went through the directory, found a suspicious file without an extension & moved it out of the company directory. The backup proceeded fine.

I have been doing back ups fine since my upgrade 6 months ago. I started getting the error last week. The file it references has to do with the tax forms.
