Hi everybody

We have an installation of Complete 2002 on a peer-to-peer network. I wanted to modify an invoice form to use our letterhead. From a "client" computer I opened the original form, made all the changes, and saved it. It asks which name you want it to have, so let me call it "headed invoice".

Now I have seen that the file is actually called something like "INV0001" and is placed in the MAIN program folder on the "server" installation.

So far all is good: from the "client" computer you see the form, and you can select it and it works.

The problem is that fron the "server" computer you don't see the new form at all, even if the file is actually there. And this is the installation where most of the activities will be done.

After having tried to find on the manuals and online help an hint, without success, now I'm here asking: what can be wrong here? do I need to do something to "initialize " the form before it been seen by the other computer??

...beside that I'd hate to have to spend another two hours or so to re-design the form, I think it's something I better solve in general...

Thanks in advance

Miriano

Peachtree always search your customized forms from the "datapath" you set in the ini file placed in your Windows folder c:\windows ( for win9x and me platform ) or c:\winnt ( for nt, 200 and xp platforms ).

So, go to your server computer, search the file pcw90.ini under your Windows folder like c:\winnt\pcw90.ini, open it and modify the statement "datapath=..." to the folder that contains your Peachtree data and forms.

See if it works.

Thank you very much. It worked perfectly. A couple of questions:

- It seems that I have "two" complete sets of forms, one into the folder "Peachw" and the other into "Peachw/Data". Why is it this way???

- The information you gave me: is it somewhere in the manuals or in the help? you know, I've really tried hard to find anything, so I'm just wondering...

I don't think you can find every technical details from one single source, anyway Peachtree is an accounting software for users with little computing knowledge. However, from it's online help, web support's knowledge center, etc., you can find a lot technical information. Of course, this forum is another good source, so I really appreciate the setting up of it.

For the question of duplicate sets of forms, I don't think it should be like this, at least my installation is not this way but it works fine. However, if you're working in a network environment and share the same Peachtree data, depends on how you install, duplicate data is possible. My suggestion is don't bother it as it won't take you much space.

I have several clients with the same problem. I have tried numerous ways to get each machine to select the forms from the same datapath, but some of the clients have the program installed slightly differently on each machine.

Yes, check the .INI file and verify the datapath. Then make sure that each machine has the form in their datapath. Of course, this makes updating different forms a headache, but most comapnies rarely change their forms.

One addition, I always copy the new forms to the company folder. That way it is backed up whenever a backup is performed. If you have ever lost forms because they were not in the directory you thought they were, you will understand the wisdom of this move.
