Another question;;;

I backed up files in quickbooks 2000 and restored them to a 2001
Quickbooks programme, and everything went smooth. New company and all related data was restored.

I backed up files in Peachtree version 7, through the backup menu in Peachtree, went to restore them on another computer with Peachtree 8.0 version, and it will not allow me to.

How do I restore an entire company data (company name included) from version 7 to version 8???

Thanks for your help

Before you can restore a file company into a new installation of Peachtree, you must first establish a blank company to restore into.

To do this, in Version 8 choose File, New, then walk through the prompts of the New Company Wizard. The only field that you must fill out is the Company Name. Choose Build Your Own when asked about the chart of accounts. No other prompts matter...click Next all the way through.

Once your new company is established, in Version 8 choose File, then Restore. Peachtree should restore the data files, then run the conversion process to upgrade them to the Version 8.0 format.

If you've performed these steps and are still unable to access your company in Version 8, please provide more background, including any error messages that you're encountering.

If your backup file is in ptb format, you can use a zip tool like Winzip to decompress the files to a folder, then you can run Peachtree 8 and open the company directly. If your backup is good, Peachtree will detect it as a lower version data and prompt you to upgrade your data.

See if it works.

Thank you for suggestions:

The files on the floppy diskette which I backed up from version 7..show files with >dat &.lck extensions...not .ptb....Therefore when I attempt to restore in version 8 it gives me a message, that files are not backup files.

Where to from here ??

You must not have used the Peachtree backup, because versions 7 and later combine everything into a single PTB file that can span one or more disks. However, if you have .DAT files, you should be able to use Windows Explorer to copy them into your company folder within the PEACHW directory on your computer.

In any case, it sounds like you have a peculiar situation there. My recommendation is to back up again from the original source if possible, then restore from a fresh backup.

Try to create a folder in a temporary folder and copy everything directly from your floppy disks backup to that folder, then open it with Peachtree 8. If your backup is good, again it should works.

If your backup files are stored in several disks, you must copy all of them back to this temporary folder, otherwise Peachtree can't open it. If your restore and upgrade is successful, you may copy the complete folder back to its proper place.
