Independent contractor unit price

How could I setup in inventory an item that is not a stock item (its for paying an independent contractor hours he worked), so that when I enter an accounts payable invoice and I select the "inventory item" in the items column, Peachtree automatically brings the unit price and calculates the amount (hours payable x unit price)?

Set up a SERVICE Inventory Item.

Thanks for your response, but when I setup the inventory item as "Service" and I enter a contractor invoice, when I select the "Inventory item" the units por hour amount does not automatically calculate as it does with a "Stock item" Is there another way?? Thanks

Set up the same SERVICE as a Stock Item. Change the GL Accounts for Inventory and Cost of Sales on the Maintain Items screen to read the same GL Account. This will allow a null entry to the GL, and will provide you with the desired effects.
