I have upgraded my server to XP, ever since, I have had problems. I'm using V7, network bundled in Windows. Machine with Win '98 frequently can't access Peachtree unless both machines are turned off and restarted. Is this a known problem with XP or the network? Any fixes known?

Thanks!

I've never gotten Win98 and Win2000 to play together well in a networking environment. WinXP is based on Win2000, so that legacy has probably carried forward.

When you can't run Peachtree, can the Win98 machine not see the XP server at all? Or, are you able to access the server through other applications? Also, not sure if this is an option, but upgrading the Win98 machine to a later operating system would very likely solve the problem.

Hope this helps!

I have seen enough problems with Peachtree and XP that I avoid it like the plague. I have several of my clients running Win2000 and Win98 together, but the Win2000 is always used as the server and Win98 as the clients.

I can believe that restarting the computers will solve the problems. This was a standard tactic back in the old Win95 days. The computers lose connection and can't refind it until the system is reinitialized. Sometimes the OS is not the problem though, it is the hardware.

We found one client with this problem where the solution was to replace the network cards with cards that were all manufactured with the same model number. Some cards from different manufacturers will broadcast on slightly different sections of the bandwidth, at least part of the time, causing disconnects. Another problem can be your cabling. If it is old coax, the newer versions of Peachtree and Windows are too fast so that you have data collisions and dropoffs and all the related problems of the network losing connection.
