First, I know exactly Jack about Peachtree. I have a client that is trying to upgrade and I need some big time help.

Client is currently using Complete for Windows v4.0.

New computer is XP Pro, and Complete 2002.

When the backup is done in v4.0 it is saved as a .qic file. This file type is not recognized as a backup file by WindowsXP.

IF there is an easy solution stop here, reply.

ELSE read on:
In order to extract the data from the backup I used a Windows 98 machine. Extracted the backup fully, saved it to a file. Now I have the file burned to cd, xp machine ready to read. Now what. I have tried the import feature with no sucess. As previously stated I have no knowlege of Peachtree.

Any information or clarification would be appreciated.

Not impossible!

Instead of trying to import, if you have copied the Peachtree company folder onto a CD, you should copy the folder to the hard drive of the new computer. Then open the company and the conversion wizard will update the Peachtree files to 2002. I did this successfully for a client just the other day and upgraded them from 4.0 to 2002.

I see you are in Lubbock, just a hop, skip, and a jump from Dallas. I do consulting in computer networks and Peachtree. If you need more help-- I'm the training and conversion expert. Look for my new Peachtree book coming out next month.

David writes, bristling, yet grinning:
Deborah is *one* of the training and conversion experts, among several who frequent this forum.

I absolutely agree with David - many Peachtree experts peruse this site to give advice - and occasionally pick up new clients. Unfortunately, if we gave it all away we would be out of business. Each of us has strengths in different areas. I have seen many of David's responses and he hits it right on the mark. I have located answers for clients' problems at this site, as I am sure he does too. Hopefully, I have solved a few in my own way too.

I can tell that the two of us have some different outlooks when it comes to various subjects, such as OS's, networks, and Peachtree solutions. That's why we have forums... to have a place with give and take and to present viewpoints from our own experience. That is what the Internet is all about after all.

Deborah,

Thanks for your kind remarks...I appreciate the feedback. I've already learned a great deal from your some of responses, and those of Robert, Jackie, et. al. The sharing of perspectives among experts is invaluable, and in my view, makes it well worthwhile to donate some of my time to the Peachtree community.

I look forward to your continued postings, and I'm looking forward to seeing your book next month.

Best regards,

David
