Does anyone know if it's possible to have two companies open at the same time, each in it's own window? Sure would make it easier to jump back and forth. I tried running the program from the server as well as the local computer, but that didn't work. Any ideas???

Sure. All you need are two computers.

Further to Robert's answer, Peachtree doesn't support multiple instances in memory on the same machine. As you found, you can't trick it by running the program off the server and the local drive as both are running in the same memory on the same machine.

If you do have two computers, you can use a KVM to easily toggle between the two. You wouldn't be able to share clipboards across the machines, but it would be a way to instantly switch between two active instances of Peachtree.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just have to open and close companies all day long, but at least I now know why it won't work from the server. THANKS!!!

This was back in version 7 . The client clicked on the peachtree icon quickly multiple times and opened two companies at the same time. When they upgraded to version 9 they couldn't do it any more.

Just tried it as you said, but it doesn't work on my computer. I'm running Windows 2000. What is your configuration?

I HAVE WINDOWS 2000 TOO AND IS RUNNING PT2000 6.0

THIS IS WHAT I DID

CLICK ON THE PEACHTREE SHORT CUT TO OPEN A COMPANY

OPEN ONE COMPANY ENTER THAT COMPANY NUMBER AND LOG ON
MINIMISE IT

CLICK ON THE PEACHTREE SHORT CUT TO OPEN A COMPANY AGAIN

THEN THEN ENTER THE SECOND COMPANY NUMBER AND LOG ON

We are not talking about the same product here. This is the Peachtree Accounting/Complete Accounting (for Windows) forum, not the Peachtree 2000 forum. Peachtree 2000 is a completely different product.

I believe the design of PAW and PCAW precludes the possibility of opening two companies at the same time.

You're right, Robert. Just tried it again and no go.

It could be it was version 6 , but it really worked. You click on the Icon quickly
and it opened up Peachtree twice. We had no problems with data. No promices but it worked. I am talking in Peachtree Complete the one this Forum is for.

Version 6 was a 16-bit software product, meaning it was compatible with Windows 3.1. Versions 7 and later are 32-bit products, which require Windows 95 and later. It's completely possible that you could trick the 16-bit version into running two sessions at once, but limitations were introduced in version 7 that prevent this.

Further, keep in mind that just because you "can" do something doesn't mean that you "should" do something. I can run two Excel sessions at the same time, for instance, but it's a good way to potentially make my computer unstable.

ASIF,

Just so you know:

You should not use the procedure that you are indicating to open a second company in Peachtree 2000. The thing is that if you click the icon two times the program runs twice and it becomes messy. Peachtree strongly disencourages you to do this (read manual and WS).

The correct procedure is to open the first company and then click on the icon to open a second company in the top right corner of the Peachtree 2000 screen. I recommend you to follow this procedure in the future to avoid any problems.

Take Care,
