I have been running Peachtree version 10.00 on Windows 98 with no problems for a few years. I recently had a problem with the hard disk and had an outside consultant fix it (Windows 98 would not run). All is well again, but I cannot run Peachtree. When I run PEACH.BAT, I get the message "Peachtree Complete Accounting Requires SHARE to be loaded."

I have been through the previous posts regarding problems with SHARE with no luck. I have tried:
1) adding SHARE to autoexec.bat - same response
2) creating a SHARE.EXE with 0 bytes in the root directory - same response
3) taking out all references to SHARE (ie: renaming file in root directory, renaming file in windows\command directory, and removing reference prior to running peach.bat - same response
4) and a number of variations in between - all to the same response.

The autoexec.bat and config.sys files match the previous configuration.

Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can fix it?

Thanks!
Don

Occassionally, Peachtree throughs and error message that is inconsistent with the real problem.

Check the following settings:
Go to the Windows START button and then RUN - Type SYSEDIT and click on OK. Open the Config.sys file and check for a series of command lines, one of which would be FILES=150 or higher but not exceeding 255.

Look for any lines referencing SHARE in the CONFIG.SYS file. If found REM the line.

Look for linesl like DEVICE=C:\Windows\Himem.sys
Device=c:\Windows\Emm386.exe Noems
DOS=HIGH,UMB
FILES=150
Buffers=32,0

In the Autoexec.bat file you should have lines like: (You may have more but should include these)
PATH=C:\;C:\Windows;\C:\Windows\System
LH C:\Windows\Share.exe /F:10240 /L:500 (this path should point to the folder where Share.exe is found).
SET PC3ID=CO
SET OVERLAY_HEAP=1

That still gives the same result. Any other thoughts as to the source of the problem?

Try using the NETPEACH command versus Peach.bat.
