View Full Version : Invoice - slow retrieval and printing

We currently experience coffee break opportunities every time we try to retrieve an existing invoice or print one. Our journal file was 88mb and I thought I would resolve the problem by purging data (which reduced the file down to about 33mb) but it is still as lethargic as ever. We are on PA 8.0 and I just bought a new computer thinking my old 166 was the reason for the sluggishness, but the coffee pot is as busy as ever with the 2 min plus retrieval and print time delays. The new PC has Windows 2000 and my printer is a HP 1200 (which I also just found out from helpful tips how to resolve my problem with the peach.exe crash message from reading posts on this board - thanks!) Any advice is appreciated. I sure wish I had found this board before I did my upgrade! : )

Certainly cpu speed affects performance, but there're some other factors. Try these:
Update patches to your Peachtree, several patches should be applied to Peachtree Accounting 8.

Next, what about the memory you have, for Win2000 at least 128MB. The more the better. Besides, antivirus program can also significantly slow down your machine. Try to disable it and see if the speed returns to normal. If antivirus program is the cause of problem, you may be able to change its settings to skip scanning those files or folders used by Peachtree.
Hope these help.

I second Jacky's recommendations. With regard to Windows 2000, I recommend at least 256 MB of RAM, or even 512 MB if you frequently have several programs open at once. Don't even think of putting this much RAM in a Windows 9x or Me machine. However, with Windows 2000, I've had clients experience huge performance increases on the same machine, particularly at the 512 MB RAM level or higher. Same RAM recommendations apply to Windows XP, which is based on the Windows 2000 platform.
Also, make absolutely sure that you're running the 8.02 patch. Peachtree made *huge* performance improvements with that patch, which have carried forward to version 9/2002. Jacky's post provides a link to this patch.

You aren't by any chance running Peachtree across a network?

I am not running across a network. I will try the patch and see if that helps. This pc isn't connected to the internet, so I disabled the virus check. Peachtree is the only app that we run on this pc. We also use Excel report on data we export, but that is the only other software we run. Thanks for the very quick replies!
