I have reinstalled to a directory called PEACHTREE instead of PEACHW, (inorder to test this Cannot open STATUS.DAT problem) and now none of the links work because they are all calling 8dot3 file name i.e. PEACHTR~. What is going on? I have been using this for years without EVER a problem until yesterday.
My error is now Unable to Open E:\PEACHTR~\DATA\STATUS.DAT. file not found

What version of Peachtree? Is this installed on a network?

V9.0.02.033
It was installed on a Network, but in testing I am simplyh trying to get it to install on one single machine to eliminate drive mapping, etc.
Any Suggestions why I would get that error right after a clean install with no data?

My understanding is that the software expects to be installed one folder down from the C:\ drive, in a directory with 8 characters or less. You should also check your PCW90.INI file to ensure that the data and program path settings are pointing to the correct locations. To do so, click Start, Run, PCW90.INI and press Enter. A typical program path will be C:\PEACHW. A typical data path would also be C:\PEACHW, or E:\PEACHW.
Good luck!

The idea of using long file name is totally justified, but not a good idea for Peachtree. Experiences shown it results in unstable Peachtree with undetermined consequences.
Interesting observation:
Logically after a clean install, the file status.dat should be under Peachtree's program folder instead of the data folder, unless you install with the program path set to e:\peachtr~\data\status.dat. Check if the file status.dat exists in that folder. Check pcw90.ini under your windows directory ( c:\windows or c:\winnt ) for the statements datapath=... and programpath=..., see if they're correct.
