We recently had an Error reading general file in Module 4 and had to restore under a new shell company , my question is : Is there any way to access any of the data files from the original company ( the corrupted files)? and also how do I delete the files from the old company ( the corrupted files). We were using an HP tape drive to backup ( using their backup utility) and Peachtree does not support any backup utility but their own, so we wound up recreating the company, manually, from Jan 1st on , since my last Peachtree backup was at yearend!

The first lesson, which I hope you have now learned, is to back up your Peachtree data every day. It is very easy to do from Peachtree and with the monster disks that are available now you can back up each day to a different file.
The module 4 error you are getting is due to a single corrupted record (4) in the GENERAL.DAT file. Unfortunately Peachtree must be able to read this file at startup or it cannot open your company.
However, this file can be repaired in most cases.
More info. about Peachtree data repair is found here. (http://peachtreeusers.com/datarepair.htm)
