Check for AntiVirus Software and Firewalls initially. Map out the Peachtree program and data folders plus the Pervasive Software folder C:\PVSW from all active AntiVirus software scans.

Check for conflicts with other programs running in memory ie. use MSCONFIG to deselect any unnecessary SERVICES and or STARTUPS to see if you can resolve this problem.

Check your RAM memory level as you need more. Peachtree / Windows XP requires a minimum of 512mb but 1GB or more is recommended.

Run CHKDSK and DEFRAG for all local and data drives.

Does this problem exist when you open one of Peachtree's sample companies? If not, then the problem could be related to your data.

Do you have more than 512MB of RAM? Your screen shot shows several applications open. You may not have sufficient memory (resources) to allow.

Are you accessing Peachtree across a network? Is it possilbe that your Domain profile loading a Firewall, AntiVirus software from the network server? You appear to be running into a conflict with some other software program.

Assuming that you are running Peachtree locally and not on a network, then you may want to startup Windows without all of the optional Services and Startup programs. To try, then go to START and RUN, type MSCONFIG and click OK. Now click on the SERVICES tab. Place a check mark in the box adjacent to "Hide MS Services" and then click on Disable ALL. Now click on STARTUP Tab and note any listings without check marks and then click Disable ALL. Now click OK and restart your computer. After the reboot, try to open Peachtree and

I've run into this problem twice in the last month when upgrading a network to Peachtree 2008. In both instances, it was one of the workstations, and in both instances, it was because Pervasive had been set to auto-load rather than pre-load or startup. Changing Pervasive to auto-load fixed the problem in both instances.

On the Peachtree KB there is an .exe command line to run from Start>Run. Do a search for KB 20625 for the command (it's in the text - you'll have to cut and paste it to the Run box.

Hope this helps,

Steve

To change the Pervasive Startup, go into Peachtree - Help - Customer Support and Service - Startup Configuration and change the setting to read SERVICE and NOT STARTUP.
