Your data is probably still around. Peachtree places each company's files in a separate folder in the data path and un/reinstalling normally does not remove them. Usually, the folder name is the first 3 characters of the first word of the company name, followed by the first 3 characters of the 2nd word, and the first 2 characters of the 3rd word. If you use Peachtree in a single user environment, the data path is probably on your C drive. The default location varies with different versions. If 2007 was your first version, then your datapath is probably C:\Program Files\Sage Software\Peachtree\company. Once you locate your company's folder you can copy it to a safe location. If you are a network user, then the data is somewhere on your server.

You can also find your data path by checking your ini file, unless you have reinstalled to a different location than Peachtree was originally installed to. Find your exact version of Peachtree in this list http://kb.sagesoftwareonline.com/cgi-bin/sagesoftwareonline.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=21334&p_created=1184872728&p_sid=zRvmutKi&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTAwJnBfcHJvZHM9MzQmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PTE uMzQmcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWRhdGEgcGF0aA* *&site_ID=&p_li=&p_topview=1
Then go to Start - Run and type in the file name from the list and hit enter. The file should open in Notepad. There will be a line that gives your datapath. Then just go to that location using My Computer or Windows Explorer to find your data.

As far as the error message, after finding and backing up your data, try rebooting. If you still can't reinstall, try uninstalling and then reinstalling. If you are on a network, make sure you have administrator rights when installing.
