I have a customer I'm helping out with their 7 to 9 upgrade. Their year-end was last month. I took a zip disk of their data before year end and was able to upgrade it from 7 to 9 without incident, but it was only a test and the plan was for them to stay on 7 through year-end.

During year-end, something went wrong and they had to restart the process a couple of times. I'm unsure of what exactly went on then, their memories aren't complete and I wasn't there. They also didn't keep backups.

By the time I learned of the problems, they were getting "account 150 doesn't foot in period 12" messages. I followed the instructions on Peachtree's web site and was able to fix these issues. After the issues were fixed, I attempted to upgrade to 9 and got a message that the conversion failed. The filename on the screen at the time of failure was VENDOR.PTL, but it doesn't look like anything had been done on VENDOR.PTL yet.

I went back to 7 and did a complete repair (reindex?) of the files. I also did a integrity check selecting all five major categories (Chart of Accounts, Inventory, Vendors, etc.) and everything went fine. But I still can't ugprade to 9, I keep getting stuck on the VENDOR.PTL file.

Any ideas out there?

Does you V7 have all the needed updates? I know that if the proper updates are not installed to V7 and V8 that Peachtree will not always convert correctly, but these are usually General Error for MOdule 11 or 4 messages.

We had the same problem with upgrading from V7 to V9. Our data simply would not convert. We found a consultant in Buffalo and sent our data to him. We then installed V9 as a separate program in a different directory from V7 and copied our converted data into it. We also had to re-input everything that had been run in V7 during the time our data was out for conversion. It's a pain because if you want 2001, 2000 history you have to go into the other PT program, but it works.

Here is what I was advised - Run integrity check in the first accounting period and run the inventory ledgers first. My data is corrupted in the payroll area. I have 3 versions running right now - We are a large company and have seasonal workers so we got a lot of employee data requests and we have to answer them so I have to keep 7 alive to do so - Had to install V8 to run my mag media because it wouldn't run with V9 - and now I have 4 months of data in V9 - oh yeah - my boss is quite pleased - pleased in a way that it makes him vunerable if I leave without getting this resolved. PS In case anyone is wondering - my CA DE6 did not run with version 9 - that is being addressed now too.
