Greetings. I new to this board and desperate for help. Peachtree 2004/05 ran fine but my CPA wants me to use QuickBooks. So I used the Ad/Remove XP feature to remove Peachtree. However, when I try to start an auction bidding program I need, it won't start, then PT2005 tries to start behind it, even though I removed it! I've even run 2 registry cleaning programs and spoke with PT support. They acknowledge the issue but don't have a solution.
Windows task manager shows me both are starting, so somehow they get linked when I remove PT. If I reinstall PT, both programs run fine. I need the disk space so can anyone tell me how to get PT fully uninstalled? I need to bid soon, so your help is appreciated.

I'm guessing your auction bidding program uses Btrieve and that is part of your problem. Find the directory where Peachtree was installed. By default it will be c:\peachw. Move the entire folder somewhere else. (You can delete it completely afterwards.) Now the registry won't know where to find a Peachtree application to start up. Then use a tool like Registry Mechanic to clean up your registry. This will remove any misinformation that persists in your registry. Finally reinstall your auction bidding program. If things now work you can delete the peachw folder from your system.

Hi Robert,
I removed Peachtree but just did a search anyway for peachw. It's not showing but a trace of something is being left behind by PT. Note that if I reinstall PT, my auction program works fine. But when I remove PT, then try to launch the auction program, PT tried to start...even though it's been removed. It's like a ghost that won't leave! Any ideas are appreciated.

have you tried uninstalling peachtree and reinstalling your auction software? I believe the others are correct that is that they share a database and software companies to make installing easier for you they combine the install of their products with the database install but the downside is that when they uninstall they take it with them and if any other programs were using it they lose it too.
