Duplicate check numbers

We received a duplicate batch of payroll checks from our printer. Instead of wasting them, I want to use them, but when I put in a check number (which was already used), it tells me duplicate check number and automatically puts in a new number. If it keeps doing this, I'll never be able to match up the check numbers properly. Help?

Would it work to add a letter before or behind the number? maybe a "D"?

Just remember that the bank will "read" the check number that is printed on the bottom of the check and not the one printed by Peachtree. It might be confusing if both checks clear the bank during the same month. It might be better to return the duplicate set of checks to the printer and let them fix their error (assuming it was their error).
