Hi,
This question is because we recognize that our computer system is at point where a hardware failure is a matter of when, not If it happens.

We would like to keep using PCA 2005, it runs just fine, we maintain the payroll tables ourselves. I've researching a new computer system, and the question arises, should we plan for the future and move to Vista, or stick with what we know to be working and stay with XP PRO SP2.

Dell has a option to purchase PCA 2008 for $122.00 in configuring a computer purchase. We are aware of the issues of running PCA 2008 under VISTA, but, none of the issues listed at the Peachtree website for Windows Vista, apply to us so far. Of course, I chose a hardware configuration to help Vista to run as smoothly as possible with the given configuration for a reasonble cost ($700 to $900)before taxes and shipping .
But with XP Pro SP2, and the same hardware configuration, I feel PCA 2005 will run faster, and hopefully, be a reliable and smooth running system for at least 2-3 more years.

However, in 2-3 years, that hardware configuration will be at the trailing edge of real world system requirements for Vista.

We tend to run on the same hardware for at least 5-9 years(with some hardware upgrades as needed.)

So the question in nutshell,

Vista with the PCA 2008, for 5 years or XP Pro SP2 with PCA 2005 for 2-3 years?

Thanks in advance for all and any comments, thoughts on the questions.

Due to speed issues with Vista, we continue to recommend the use of Windows XP PRO SP2 when used with any version of Peachtree.

Microsoft has stated that Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3 will be released during the 1st quarter of 2008. MS has further stated that the Vista SP1 will address a large number of critical issues but speed or performance issues are not among them. Intern, MS has stated that the XP SP3 will include performance improvements as much as 10%.

If you purchase Windows Vista compatible equipment, loaded with Windows XP PRO, you should be able to upgrade Windows Vista, one, two or more years down the road.
