This is the message I receive when I try and launch Peachtree. I just installed it on a Windows 2000 machine. We have several users who use it on our site and they all point to data files on a server. I changed my configuration file to point to the server, but still no luck. I've looked at the other configurations in our office and the other users config's are identical.

After receiving the cannot open Status.dat, I then get a message that tells me something like the following:

"Share not installed"

And then tells me to re-install or reboot?

Any idea what this error means?

It looks like you don't have your data path set correctly. What version of Peachtree?

Several things to check:

- is the file "status.dat" exist in the datapath?
- is the user right set properly?
- avoid long file name
- avoid UNC, use traditional mapping like P:\ instead of \\servername\sharename

Hope these help.

I'm on version 8.0.

Status.Dat is located in the path I am pointing to...and I am using drive letters rather than \\servername\path

Does share.exe need to be loaded in the autoexec?

You don't need to load Share. This is part of a series of misleading error messages that Peachtree throws out.

Click on Start, Run, then type PCW80.INI. Ensure that your datapath says something like F:\PEACHW. It's critical that you have PEACHW in the datapath...if you map inside the PEACHW folder, you can encounter massive problems.

And make sure you've applied the latest udpate for Peachtree 8.
