How do I move peachtree to a new computer? I copied all files from the pt directory from the old computer to the program files/peachtree directory of the new computer and nothing. Do I need to reinstall the software?

Thanks.

Yes, you need to install the program on the new computer. This is true for all of your programs. Also, if you use excel then install Office before installing Peachtree so that peachtree will recognize that excel is installed.

You can copy the data files from the \company folder or use the backup/restore processes in Peachtree to transfer the company files to the new computer.

My backup files have been made with PT2005. On the new computer should I reinstall PT2005 or start with the new install of PT2008?
Also, I have two companies set up with 2 .ptb files, when I load the software, does it ask me to create another company? It has been a few years since installing new. Thanks.

I would recommend loading Peachtree 2008 on the new computer. Open the program and register it. Then using one of the sample companies, take a look around to verify that all is working as expected.

Now you can open Peachtree, click on FILE and RESTORE. Select your R2005 backup to restore and when prompted, select to restore as a NEW COMPANY". Upon completion of the restore process, Peachtree will prompt you to start the data conversion of your data from Peachtree 2005 to 2008.

Thanks. During the install of PT2008, installation was stopped and I was given this error message:
The installation of the Pervasive Database has failed. Call tech support...

On PTs web site, they suggest going to Services.msc, finding and chaning the type to automatic on Pervasive.SQL Workgroup Engine, but I don't have Pervasive.SQL Workgroup Engine listed in services console.
Any futher assistance is appreciated.

I understand the my problems stems from my firewall configuration (Norton and XP), however, I have followed the detailed instructions and tried several times to install without success. I cannot figure out if one or both firewalls are causing the problem.
With Nortons firewall, I do not have any custom/user defined rules to disable.
With XPs firewall, I have not added all of the PT files to the exception list because I do not have them on my pc. For example: PEACHPIM15.EXE AND PEACHUPDATE15.EXE are not on my pc since I am attempting to install PT2008 on my new pc with an upgrade version. Could this be the source of my problem? Maybe I need more handholding that I thought with this installation, do I dare call support....

Click on START and RUN, type services.msc and click OK. Right click on services listed under the SYMANTEC....... and select STOP. This will temporarily disable the NORTON's Firewall and related services. The Wndows XP Firewall is not the primary problem as Peachtree's installation can manage it. Now, install Peachtree and when finished you can either reboot your computer to restart the Norton services or you can repeat the steps to disable but this time select START on each Service.

Note you can obtain local support via Certified Peachtree Consultants as well as the moderator of this website. Peachtree's support services are overwhelmed with calls at this time of year, resulting in caller frustration.

This eventually worked. The first install did so without the pervasive db. PT failed to start, so I ran the install/repair from the CD and restarted the pc. It appears that the sample company is working fine. I hope I have less problems with the conversion. I greatly appreciate your help!

Hi, I have the same problem except I went as far as uninstalling Norton and I still have the pervasive database failure problem. I bought this single user a few months back and installed on my old pc, which caught a virus and forced me to uninstall PT and now I tried to install PT on my new pc. But I have the same problem. What else can be the problem? Thanks for the help
