I have installed Peachtree Complete Accounting 2006 on my computer. I am trying to open an old file from our company so we can get the information out as we have recently upgraded computers.

The file is from an older version which I do not know. Is there any help that anyone can give me as to how to open that file or determine the version of the old file.

Open Peachtree and click on FILE and RESTORE. Point at the backup file and restore it as a NEW COMPANY. Once the file has been restored, Peachtree will automatically start the data conversion process. It is at this level that the program will identify the current data version and will then convert it up to the your program level.

Peachtrees says the file is not a back up file and it will not open. I am not sure what I am looking for in terms of the name of the file, so it makes it difficult for me. If I try to open a company it finds the file with the correct date and says "This company data was created in a version of Peachtree that cannot be converted to this version"

Is there a version of Peachtree that I can purchase that would open this file no matter what version it is. I am not entirely sure it is Complete accounting and I don't know where to check. Any help is appreciated

Open the backup file with winzip. Look for the Version.txt file and post back what the file says. It will tell us the year and version. For example, PT complete 2004 says 14.02 and 2005 says 15.02.

Thanks for everyone's help. I never did solve the original issue but in looking around I found a copy of the old application on our server and opened the file and got the information I needed. Strange how things happen, but I wouldn't have been looking if each of you hadn't been trying to help me. Thanks again.
