Beginning Balances

I am fairly new to PT & have run into a roadblock. I have to start tracking investment accounts that are already in existence and I cannot figure out how to enter a beginning balance. The period I need won't come up in the Chart of Accounts window. I can do a JE, but not sure how to classify it.

Go to Maintain/Chart of Accounts and click on the Beginning Balances button.

No, as sometimes the dates are more recent than I can access in that field. I sometimes only need a beginning balance from the month prior (more specifically starting Jan with December's balance.) Does that make sense?

What kind of investments are these?

[Adrian]

Morgan Stanley. IRA accounts mostly. We haven't been tracking them but this year the money is being moved around some especially from accounts I am already tracking to ones that I have not been.
