View Full Version : back-up of Peachtree 2002

Our office recently upgraded our Peachtree software to the 2002 version... however, when my boss goes to back-up data on a diskette, it seems to default to an earlier version (3.5) of Peachtree- so that when you go to open the (2002) backed-up file, 3.5 pops up with no data?
Any insight as to why this is and how to fix it?

I tried a backup to and restore from floppy with 2002 and it worked perfectly, so your boss must have been done something wrong. Can you tell us what specifically he did to back up on floppy?

The normal procedure is to go to File:Backup on the Peachtree Menu bar, click "Backup Now" and select the floppy drive as the destination. This will create a single PTB file. If the file is too big for a single floppy, Peachtree will estimate how many floppies are needed and tell you. Then it will spread the file over the number of required floppies. If you do a backup to disk and look at how big the file is, the number of floppies required should be approximately (size in MB)/1.44 for standard 3 1/2" floppies.

thank you for your reply - my boss backed up exactly as you stated- from the file menu, backup now, etc... it took one disk to do and when he goes to open up the backup on disk for some reason it defaults to the older version of peachtree- should we try to uninstall the older version? shouldn't the newer version override any older software? will uninstalling 3.5 have any effect on 2002?

okay, so we've uninstalled all versions of PAW/PCAW and reinstalled version 9 (2002) - attempted to backup a company- which created the PTB file... then we tried to open this file from the floppy diskette and Peachtree 2002 opens, but there is no company data to speak of- and when we go to open the file from the File menu, looking on the A:\ drive, there are no companies listed at all??? yet when you search the drive from outside of PCAW, the PTB file IS listed... what are we missing here?

Backup files are meant to be restored from the company from which they were saved. Go to Peachtree and open the company where you created the backup. Then from the Peachtree menu bar select File:Restore and you will see the backup show up on A:.

If you are trying to create a new company on another machine from the backup, create a company folder on the target system under the Peachtree folder. Then use WinZip or a similar tool to unzip the PTB file contents into that folder.
