We don't use the fixed assets part of PT, and that's the only thing that I can really notice is the difference between "Complete" and "Pro". Any other differences like Shippng, Outlook, etc. we don't use.
The only thing we use it for is Accounts Payable, Journal Entries, Financial Statements, and a couple invoices. We are a non-profit organization which is funded 100% by donations (and those are recorded as "receipts" at the time we receive them - obviously we don't invoice for them).
I am thinking about going from PT Complete 2006 to PT Pro 2009. Is this possible?
The PT Pro 2009 is free after rebate this week at Staples and I would like to take advantage of the deal.
Thank you.

Pro is a lower end product than Complete, so you cannot move from Complete to Pro.

Really????
Even if Pro is a newer year (2009) and complete is (2006)???
What would happen if I tried???
Thank you.

It won't open the file. The Staples deal on Complete is only $30 after the rebates, so why not do that?

It's $129.99 after rebates from what I see on their website:
$269 - $149 rebates = $129 final price.
I'd jump fast if it was only $30.

Oops -
A friend of mine sent me an email about the $30 deal - in re-reading it, that's for current QuickBooks users to switch.
$129 is still a good deal.

Thank you for all that information.
It's a terrible shame that PT holds you hostage that if you buy a higher level PT program that later you can't downgrade to something that is more useable and economical for you.
Maybe it's time to switch to a competitors product, especially since I'm the only user of this product at our non-profit organization.

Most software companies do not allow downward conversion, so it is nothing new in the industry. You could install it into a different location, start a new company and enter beginning balances.

Yes you have to install again otherwise you can use PT 2009 Pro...
