I am about ready to buy a new computer that has windows xp home edition on it. I currently use Peachtree complete vs 9 on a windows 98 platform. Is there any problems I need to know about using Peachtree vs 9 on windows xp, or should I try and get windows 98 on the new computer.
Also I use Microsoft office professional quite a bit in connection with peachtree. I have office 97 but was thinking to upgrade to office xp.
I would appreciate any information you can provide on these issues as soon as possible

I highly recommend Windows XP and Office XP. Although I was wary of Windows XP for several months, I recently bought a new laptop with WinXP installed. That's the best way to go, to ensure you don't carry forward any lingering problems from a prior operating system. In any case, it's been a great experience.

On the Office XP front, Microsoft has made several great improvements, particularly over Office 97, and in Excel in particular.

I don't foresee any problems with Peachtree and WinXP, or at least I haven't encountered any.

Agree with David. With Win XP, your Peachtree should run more smoothly and stable. Since XP uses more resources esp. RAM, better to have more RAM ( at least 256MB ).

Sometime ago users in this forum have reported problem with export to Excel XP, I'm not quite sure what's the status now. Good to check it first.

The problem was that in Version 7 (and 8, I think), the Excel export button was grayed out when you used Excel 2002 (XP). There's a workaround for that (a registry fix). Anyway, Peachtree 2002 fixes the issue, so you don't have to worry about anything.

As an alternative to editing the registry, one can right-click on a report name, then choose Excel from the context menu, should the Excel button be disabled.

I would like to know the registry fix for the disabled excel button. I am currently trying to find this and have not been able to. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Copied and pasted from an article I had laying around:

Make sure that you backup your registry before you do this. If you are not fimilar with the registry, PLEASE have someone do this that is technically astute.

1) Click start-Run then type regedit.

2) Collapse the folder HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Application\CurVer
until you
see the string value name (Default). Modify the (Default) value to be
Excel.Application.9 instead of Excel.Application.10

3) Collapse the folder HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Application.10. and
Rename this
folder to Excel.Application.9.

4)That's It!! Your Excel button should be back in Peachtree. This
will not
damage or interfere with any of your Microsoft products or your
Peachtree
application.

If you see any problems, just change the
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Application\CurVer string value back to
Excel.Application.10 and rename the
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Application.9 back
to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Application.10.

Before making any modifications to your registry I HIGHLY recommend you select Registry and then export. This will save your registry just in case if you make a mistake in any modification you can always select Registry, Import and bring it back in.

Just to make a point here...

You only have to export the Registry key that you are changing to the desktop (or any other place that you want) and not the entire registry. I'm pretty sure that's what The Wolf meant.

Also, that fix has been published here several times. In fact... I think I will create the reg file and pubish it here.
