Your CUSTOMER.DAT file has been corrupted. The standard solution is to restore from your latest backup and re-enter everything from that date. However, if you have not been backing up regularly you may want to see if your data can be repaired - click the "Data Damaged?" box at the top of this page to find out more.

While the file may be corrupt you can try to repair it with these instructions:
Reindexing a File
Please change to accounting period 1 before doing the following:
This test verifies that one of your company data files is not damaged.
Loading Peachtree with Integrity Check
In Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP or NT:
Go to the Start Menu and Choose Run
Type in c:\peachw\peachw.exe -i
This will load Peachtree with two new options under the FILE menu. Never choose these options without being instructed to do so by a Peachtree Technical Support Person.
Choose File and Integrity Check.
Choose to make a Backup.
In this screen, Check off Reindex Files on the left and choose Customer on the Right and click OK.
If this doesn't correct then you may want to try Mr. Walraven's suggestion.

Typically "I/O Error" means Btrieve error 2 - the file is physically not readable by Btrieve. You'll know right away if you try reindexing and get the same error.
Occasionally you can get an I/O error with a valid file. In this case rebooting your system can clear the problem. However, if this is the case, you definitely have network or computer problems that need to be addressed.
