For the last couple of days I have to use the installation disk to repair Peachtree, just to get it to start. We had a power outage a couple of days ago and that is when I first noticed the problem. It says there is a fatal error when I try to start Peachtree after closing out of it or shutting down my computer and that's when I have to use the installation disk. I'm really not sure what to do because it was working fine until a couple of days ago. I am using the complete accounting 2008 with windows vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Using the Peachtree CD, click on the Modify menu choice. Here you will see the Repair or Remove Options. Choose the Remove or Uninstall option, following which you can then perform a full and fresh install.

The uninstall will only remove program files, not data files. However, it's always good to make a backup before doing system maintenance.

I would recommend uninstalling the Pervasive programs, and the .net framework, after uninstalling Peachtree. Then reinstall and it will put .Net Framework, Pervasive and Peachtree back on. Then go to services, check for updates and apply any service releases.

I strongly recommend you to have at least .net framework 2.0, Windows Installer 3.1, and SP2 before reinstalling peachtree. And stop by this link to read the installation tip too

Windows XP SP3 includes the newer Windows Installer 3.1. Downloading and installing SP3 has proven to resolve many Peachtree installation problems, without introducing new problems.
