The best solution for the federal withholding is to purchase the payroll tax tables from Peachtree. The SUTA calculation is documented in the Peachtree manual.

If you don't want to pay for the tax tables, then you should manually calculate the amount to be withheld from each employee by using the free Circular E from the IRS:

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf

You can probably cobble together the FUTA calculation once you build the SUTA calculation.

Although it may seem annoying to buy the payroll tax tables, keep in mind that every business, including software companies, needs going revenue to survive. In addition, paying for the tax tables is like buying insurance against botching the calculations. This in turn mimizes your opportunties for correspondence and attention from the IRS.

The only thing more annoying than purchasing PT's tax table upgrades is realizing if I wouldn't have upgraded to the PT Complete 2002 the last time around I would have still had access to the global tax tables myself and be able to edit my own tables. It would have been nice of PT to let us know when it was going to take that portion of the program away from us. Maybe some of us little people would have waited a little longer before we made the nest upgrade. Or...maybe that was PT's plan... huh?

It's a free country...no one says you *have* to use Peachtree. Just like anything...if you don't like a company's policies, vote with your feet and take your money elsewhere.

No one says Peachtree *has* to be deceiving either when their pumping up their new upgrades and not tell you about the drawbacks but I guess a bucks a buck any way you can get it.

You can always make use of their 30 day (formerly 60 day) return policy if you buy an upgrade and don't like a feature within it. I'm not saying that Peachtree is ideal. I'm just trying to point out that you do have options.

The goal of the forum is to exchange information about how to use Peachtree's software better, not exchange barbs about how "the man" is pushing us down and stealing our money.

I probably would have done just that and waited for an update that had new functionality that I really needed, but by the time it came to updating the global tax tables for the new year, I had already had the update installed for several months. That's all I'm saying too. If PT would have been up front with this functionality they were taking away from us I probably wouldn't have updated. Oh well, what's done is done.
