Ive been working on upgrading 2003 over 2002 for the last 3 days with no luck. I can get the upgrade to about 46% on its second pass on jrnlrow.dat and the computer tells me it is unable to upgrade, has an i/o error in above mentioned file and backs out.
Ive tried using a good backup from as far back as dec 2001, yet i still get i/o errors in jrnlrow and jrnlhdr, each in a different spot. again, there have been no errors in 2002 after running data verification etc. Keep in mind, this is the file server for a 5 computer network, but the install is being done with the computer off the network. Im running out of options. Any help/suggestions are appreciated. Oh and by the way, the computer in question has a brand new scsi hard drive, recently defragged and supposedly (reported by Norton antivirus) free of any virus. Ive also tried on a different hard drive, again, no luck.

You're on exactly the right track to run the upgrade on a stand alone computer. As for the I/O errors, it would seem that there's some sort of data corruption. Have you tried running the Repair Company function? If you're not able to get things straightened out by repairing the company, you'll have to either consider sending Peachtree 2003 back, or rebuild your company.
Good luck!

Actually, ive tried to repair the company several times and with different outcomes each time (sometimes there are no reported errors and it works without a hitch, only to find im still unable to update to 2003). Ive also tried rebuilding the company, but whatever corrupt data is in there, comes thru on the rebuild and i cant get to certain points without the company crashing. Ive also tried tried rebuilding a company with only a couple things such as customers and accounts, data that is ok in peachtree 2002, but crashes in 2003. Cant figure this thing out unless all of my data is corrupt. If that is the case, i have no idea how to get my old data into 2003 without the data being corrupt. my only other option is to take the link from this web site and have them fix all my errors.

It's rather strange to me that rebuilding wouldn't resolve the problem. When you export from the original company, are you opening the files in Excel to review the data? In any case, what I was considering is that you'd export the data from Peachtree 2002, and import it into a fresh Peachtree 2003 company, thereby skipping the entire conversion process.
Rather than pay someone to repair the company, I'd pay them to convert your data to Peacthree 2003 instead, with a guarantee that you don't pay if it's not successful.
Good luck!

i sent an email to the people that do the repair. your idea is good, and i will try that instead when i hear back. im not in a big hurry to update, but it would be nice, since we already have the new software.
as far as the export/import, no, i havent looked at any of the files in excel.
I also tried importing those files into 2003, but the format must be different for the import as i cant get those filese to import either. maybe if i break the files down to only the items i really need to import, it might work. i guess i will try that later.
Its just frustrating now and its very time consuming. Havent had much of a weekend as i have tried to update the computer for hours. oh well, ill see what they come up with. im still open to suggestions, but i do appreciate the input!

As far as I know, you get one free call to support since you upgraded. They repaired and converted some data for me at no charge in 2002. They said they repair and convert (if it can be repaired) at no charge if you are going to their current release.

I had the same experience as The Wolf. Peachtree converted my data at no cost for me because I was having problems.

just got off the phone with peachtree support. Im trying again with the update. They said if it doesnt work this time, i will need to send a backup and they will update. From the experiences of the people that sent their files back, does anyone remember how long they had your data?
Thanks for the help!

Had it done twice and one of the small companies I sent took just a couple of days and they sent it back via airbourne. The other one was a pretty large company and it was about seven days on that one. I was able to email the smaller company but had to ship the larger one to them.

What is the exact IO error you were getting? Alot of times reindexing corrects IO errors or if you can find the tyransaction that is damaged you can delete it.

Yep that is one that someone with the btrieve utilities will have to try and repair.
