We are currently using Peachtree 8.00

Here is my question.

We are in the manufacturing industry. Therefore, our products are same in shape/model however different in colour. We already assign each model with a Item ID.

My question is when we upgrade to Peachtree 2003. Can we convert our existing item ID in Item attribute or we have to redesign the coding.

say

1-000-001BK -Blue Colour
1-000-001GN-Green Colour
1-000-001YW-Yellow Colour

Can this be done with Peachtree 2003.

Best Regards

I don't think Peachtree is smart enough to interpret our design of item id ( no single logic fits the world ).

One way is to export the whole list, use the formula functions in Excel to separate the components of the id and import into 2003 again.

Dear Jack

What I mean is can I upgrade all the data to Peachtree 2003 and from Peachtree 2003, I re-attribute my Item ID.

Say

1-000-001BK(Black)
1-000-001GN(Green)
1-000-001YW(Yellow)

to

1-000-001 then all the above code will be under this coding.

Can this be done with Peachtree 2003.

As far as I know, I don't think this is possible.

In PT V10 (2003) you cannot convert an existing standard stock item to the new master-substock scheme. However, if you create a new master item then you can define color as an item attribute. You can also assign a secondary attribute to the item if you want. For example, a shirt item can have attributes of size and color.
