I am having a problem getting PTree (2002 v 9) to figure the taxes properly.

Not all of our items are taxed at the same rate. One invoice can have each line item taxed at a different rate.

Unfortunately, if the Sales Tax field is left blank in Maintain Customers, the Invoice screen just will NOT figure any sales tax on the line items, even if the line item shows it is taxable.

But if the Sales Tax field IS used in Maintain Customers, it won't let me override that tax level setting (for line items needing other tax levels) when inputting invoices. It won't even accept Exempt.

HELP!

The only solution is to generate the transaction outside the software, then import it into Peachtree. There are various ways to do this: a custom Excel spreadsheet, PawCOM, DDE, etc. Peachtree serves as a great repository for accounting data, but as you've determined, it's not always great at helping you initiate the transaction in the manner that you'd like.

Thanks! That was an option that hadn't occurred to me; guess even if it had, I might have presumed since it would be importing something it wouldn't do itself, that the import might bomb or otherwise mess up the data.

I have imported this group of data before, when I was inputting it via JE rather than Invoice. I had been off work for a few weeks for major surgery, and used Excel to enter the resulting back-log of data since it was so much faster. My experience with that led me to figure out how to enter the data via Invoices, a lot faster than JE'g of course (where it only copies the very last description line's wording, and there is no auto-complete for commonly used entry lines).

Thanks again for the idea . . . that will definitely let me quickly track taxes due during the month, which is the main objective.
