We need help handling mult-state taxation through Peachtree. Our employees often travel and work in multiple states within a year and sometimes within a pay period. The state tax plans require us to withhold in each state that an employee works. However Peachtree Complete V 7.0 does not allow us to pay an employee and withhold from two different states. Nor does it do year end or W2's out of multiple states.
Does anyone have a work around for this, or can anyone develop one for us? If not, we are looking at spending lots of money for an Accounting package that we don't otherwise need.

Multiple state payroll is the reason I came to this forum, but your message is the only one I have found. I have derived a halfway workable technique by making the id of each employee begin with a state letter ie l for Illinois, n for Indiana, m for Missouri. Such as lspringerw, nspringerw, mspringerw. This way you can at least sort payroll reports by state, but it means each employee actually has more than one payroll account and will receive more than one W-2. Have to export reports and add columns for 940 worksheet, but Peachtree will not do a 940 anyway.

Thanks for your reply regarding the mult-state taxation. Your work around of having a seperate ID for each state an employee works in seems reasonable. We had not thought about that. However, due the fact that we have several employees that may work in 4 or more states in one year, we have opted to outsource our payroll. However, we intend to keep Peachtree, so if you find a work around that allows for multi-state taxation to be handled under one employee id, please let us know!!
