Have any one got experience on managing inventory on different location in Peachtree? I am using Peachree Complete Accounting 2002 and we have 3 small warehouses in nearby cities. Can any one help me?

Mutiwarehouse can be done by a workaround on the inventory coding and location, but it is a lot of work and prone to error headaches. I've tried it for a three shop department store. If you have comptent hands(sales staff) who understand what you are doing then thats fine. If your volume of movement is small that is fine too.
But this very often will not be the case. You want to focus on accounting and not waste some time on stock movements. If you have a chip against your storekeeper fine. It breaks my heart but DacEasy is the only horse in the price league now. Choose well as moving also means sacrificing some of the other fine features of Peachtree.. or think of moving your inventory management to a seperate module and only post the stock values at the month end.

peachtree is not suited for multi warehouse / locations / stores.

one work-around i did for a customer of mine who had 1 main office and 2 retail outlets is to use the Sales Order function.

each outlet has to have its own ar account code. for every delivery to the outlets - a SO is created. the SO report will list all the stocks in the outlet. when it is sold - an invoice is created against the SO. if it is a cash sales - an invoice is created with amount being paid at sale.

depending on the volume of deliveries to the outlets, you will need to do a periodic master SO (daily, weekly or monthly) to capture the closing stock from the previous period, and also close the previous SO.

peachtree only works with 1 SO to 1 invoice - so if you have a lot of items and SO, keeping track of them can be a real pain.

this way, you can still use the same item code, know how much stocks are at the outlets, and the cost/sales are not booked in until it is actually sold.

the customer grew to 5 outlets and lots of part-time resellers - and we have abandoned peachtree for another accounting software which handles multiple SO/DO to 1 invoice.

would have prefered to stick with peachtree - but it was too much work maintaining the 50 + part time resellers who work on consignment basis.

i have seen daceasy - and it will be a good upgrade for an existing peachtree user. however, there is hardly any support in malaysia.

Dear sydcruz and riscniaga,

Thanks so much for your advise. I have more clear idea on the ability of Peachtree on this issue now. Hope Peachtree can take care of this problem in the future.

Thanks again.

We recently implemented a multi-location application that interfaces to Peachtree. It was developed for a company that services gas station equipment and has a fleet of trucks with inventory in two different states. The system also lets them create and track work orders and, when a work order is complete, create an appropriate invoice in Peachtree.

We let Peachtree keep track of the TOTAL inventory and use an Access application to manage the movement of that inventory between the house and the trucks. The application was built on top of PawCom.

Peachtree seems to work very nice in this case because we are not asking it to do anything more than the basic accounting. Non-accounting functions are all implemented externally.
