OK, I fixed my date problem by setting up a new dummy company and restoring my data to it. Now, when I start Peachtree (v.2003), and use "Open existing company", I see two companies with my name. I would like to erase the other since it isn't a valid company anymore.

Also, when I "Open" a company from inside Peachtree, I see six companies of my name. I would like to be able to delete five of these too.

Before you do anything, back up your real company. Then, within the real company, go to Help, File Statistics. On the title bar of this screen, it will say "File stastics for nnn" where nnn is the short ID for your Peachtree company. You then want to go into the other dummy companies and make note of their short ID. Once you have this information, go to your PEACHW folder where the data resides, then delete the folders that correspond the short IDs for the dummy companys. Make sure that you don't delete the folder for your live company.

To delete mention of the dummy company from the startup screen, you have to edit the .INI file for your version of Peachtree.

O.K. How come Craig always gets his questions answered and nobody seems to be able to answer my date question?

Craig - did you have any problems with the date in the fixed assets section showing the "as of date" as March 2003? I created a new company to fix my problem with the current date showing as March 14, 2003, but now in fixed assets, I can't calculate depreciation for the financial book. It shows that depreciation has been calculated through March 2003. The only books I have open are 2001 & 2002. How could it possibly be calculating through 2003?

Can anyone help??

Hardly anyone uses the Fixed Assets module, so you have a significantly smaller chance of getting an answer for free. You can always contact Peachtree's technical support department. You can also try searching their Knowledge Center on their web site for free. Personally, I've refused to touch the Fixed Assets module with a 10' pole.

Good luck!

David - Thanks, I'll try for help elsewhere.

We are a small company, with few assets. Is there another fixed assets program you would recommend? What is it that you don't like about PT Fixed Assets?

I don't like the Fixed Assets module because in my opinion it's a clunky, unfriendly piece of software that was probably grafted onto Peachtree to have a differentiating feature from QuickBooks. Indeed, the "classic" Fixed Assets module has been dumped in Peachtree 2003 in favor of a lite version of FAS, one of the industry standard packages for computing depreciation. So, that's one option, or if you only have few assets, a simple Excel spreadsheet and some recurring journal entries in Peachtree can work even better.

dringstrom...

advice worked great! Thanks.

PS oldenbc

I gave up on assets a few years ago except for logging all the important information. No I use Excel to calculate everything...

I just did this and made sure not to delete my company but now my paechtree will not open at all and the error says it could not find the peachtree help file. Anyone know why that could be?

Try reinstalling Peachtree....that should replace any missing program files, such as the help file.

My 2 cents on the fixed asset issue - most of my clients don't have the inclination to track their own fixed assets, so they just let their CPAs do it at the end of the year.

I don't think I have a single client using the PT fixed assets. That's why I don't know anything about it.

FAS is a pretty good program, there is a conversion starting with 2004
