Hello,

I installed PT Complete for Windows version 2010 on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

I have tried everything but can't seem to get past this file system error number 11.

"File system error number: 11: p:\xxxxx\COMPANY.DAT. This could be caused by a network problem or having an incorrect datapath set up in your ini file. Please check you network, and if the problem persists then reinstall Peachtree."

The error occurs when trying to map to the shared drive holding the PT data. I have tried several things but maybe I am missing something.

I get the same error when trying to connect form Vista machines as well as Windows 7 clients.

I have:

Checked all the permissions
Tried it with the firewall off/on
Allowed all apps to get though the firewall
Tried it with antivirus installed/not installed
Rebooted all machines
2 sessions with PT support
Networked the machines directly bypassing the router

I can access the drives with no problem from "Computer"

The error steps through each company location stating it cannot connect to company.dat

Any ideas?

Error 11 is a network communication error.

You may have mapped the network drive letter right into your Company data folder versus mapping to one folder back of the shared Peachtree program folder. i.e. P:\Peachtree\Company or P:\Company.

Check the data path as defined in the PCW170.INI file located in the C:\Windows folder. Press the Windows +R keys and type PCW170.INI and click OK to open this file.

The structure is D:\PT2010\Company. I mapped both the "PT2010" (P) and PT2010\Company (Z). It will access the PT2010 but there are no company files. I step deeper into "company" and get the same error.

I am doing nothing special with my system configuration and it still won't work.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem with my computer. Here's the odd thing: I work in the IT dept. of a mid-size company. I have installed peachtree on probably 30 or 40 computers all using the exact same scripting/mapping etc... Mine is the only computer giving me fits. So the problem has nothing to do with the mapping or AV software - nor do I think it's a permissions issue (I'm a network admin - other network admins don't have peachtree problems). I too, can see, using windows explorer, that I'm mapped to the correct folder and can easily access the data file using the exact path that peachtree says it is.
Eventually, I had to install Peachtree on a virtual machine running XP - ON THE EXACT SAME PHYSICAL MACHINE I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH, and it worked fine in the VM. Weird, huh?

Though you are a network admin, I have seen the problem before with admins. To be thorough I usually unshare and remove all permissions from the folder, then add the sharing back but use a different share name. Then set permissions for just that folder to full for everyone.

I have not seen AV software cause an issue, except for firewall software and then you get "cannot connect to database" error. I have seen the above correct the issue, and I have also had to uninstall and reinstall into a different area on a server, set sharing and security back up, and then remap everyone.

Yes it is odd sometimes, but the generic definition of error 11 is a communication error.
