Check whether you set the system OS to allows system disconnect when it is running. Try to reset to never disconnect. In win98 go to Device manager and under network card go to property and power management and unclick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

I don't have any idea on Win XP as I am not the user. Try to look for device manager. It should be in somewhere in the system.

Hope this will help.

i am just getting to grips with windows xp.

besides the suggestion from slyvester - you also need to set the IP address for each computer in the network.

go to control panel - network connections - local area connection - internet protocol (tcp/ip) properties.

check that it uses the option for "use the following ip address". you need to get a network / system guy to set the individual ip address for each workstation.

i have found out that when it uses the option "obtain ip address automatically" other users keep appearing / disappearing from the network. can't work on peachtree for more than 10 minutes.
